Y Kant Librarians Read

At work today I got into a conversation with a few coworkers regarding the fairly large number of non-readers who worked at the library with us.  This is something that has always bothered me.  There seems to be a large contingent of librarians who simply don’t like books, and if that’s the case then why on Earth did they ever enter the profession?  Furthermore, there has been a trend in some of the forums I’ve read where people start to take it as a point of pride that their profession keeps them so busy that there simply is not time for leisure reading.

Picking up a book every now and again can do nothing except make for better librarians.  The public expects that knowledge base from us for one thing.  For another to a certain extent we should think of ourselves as salesmen.  Our materials (largely books) are our products, and we must show some passion towards them in order to make them more appealing towards are patrons.  Plus anyone who’s really that busy needs a break.
