opening journals

Regular readers probably know by now that I don’t exactly have the highest opinion of the professional journals.  Now Brian Kenney has written a great editorial in School Library Journal that rips into the current publishing practices.  The brunt of his argument is that it is hypocritical for the publishing arm of a profession that is built around distributing information to horde it instead.

I agree with him completely, although I will concede that the issue Kenney speak of are ones that affect all scholarly journals and not just the ones that cover the library profession.  But we can definitely do better.
