Great Job Lewiston!

I’ve been eyeing the case of a patron in Lewiston, Maine (my brother’s hometown) who was brought to court for refusing to return a copy of It’s Perfectly Normal in an effort to have the book banned in essence.  She was ordered by the court to return the book, but refused to do so.

Now, in one of the most rational political dealings I’ve heard of in some time.  The community rallied to the library’s cause and donated a number of copies of the book.  In the mean time city officials have decided not to pursue the effort further (beyond baning the patron from the library) in order to prevent her from becoming a martyr (the library director’s words).  A great way to keep public opinion on their side and get some results at the same time.  Nicely done!
