Had an interesting exercise today that I failed miserably at. Describe your job in one or two sentences. Now my job description is I believe 3 pages long, and it doesn’t cover everything. But let’s look at a wider context, try to describe the work a librarian does with that limitation. It’s not easy.
At least not without sounding like something out of a career guidance book:
My job is to connect people with information.
Of course there’s always the run-on sentence tactic:
My job is to organize and retrieve information using the latest technological resources in order to serve the information needs of the community.
You know that one’s not actually out right horrible, but it does still come across as hokey and vague. But I think that’s the best I’ve got.
